Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Vice President – Operations at the Container Freight Station (CFS) is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of operations, ensuring efficiency in cargo handling, yard management, customs compliance, and customer service. The role involves strategic planning, process optimization, vendor management, regulatory compliance, and leading cross-functional teams to drive business growth and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

1.     Strategic & Policy Implementation:

  • Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with the company’s vision and business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, government regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Drive efficiency and cost-effectiveness in CFS operations.

2. Operations & Yard Management:

  • Oversee cargo handling, stuffing/de-stuffing, inventory control, and yard operations.
  • Ensure smooth coordination with shipping lines, freight forwarders, customs authorities, and transporters.
  • Optimize yard utilization for efficient container movement and storage.

3. Customs & Regulatory Compliance:

  • Liaise with customs officials and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth clearance and compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to all legal and statutory requirements related to CFS operations.
  • Monitor and manage audits and inspections from customs and government authorities.

4. Business Development & Client Relations:

  • Collaborate with the sales and marketing team to attract new business opportunities.
  • Strengthen relationships with shipping lines, exporters, importers, and freight forwarders.
  • Enhance customer experience by ensuring high service standards.

5. Vendor & Stakeholder Management:

  • Oversee procurement and management of vendors, including transporters, surveyors, and security agencies.
  • Ensure service agreements and performance benchmarks are met.

6. Financial & Cost Control:

  • Monitor budgets, control operational costs, and optimize resource utilization.
  • Identify cost-saving initiatives without compromising service quality.

7. Team Leadership & Training:

  • Lead and mentor the operations team, fostering a culture of high performance.
  • Conduct training programs for operational staff to enhance skills and efficiency.
  • Ensure effective workforce planning and recruitment as needed.

8. Safety, Security & Risk Management:

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols for cargo handling and storage.
  • Implement security measures to safeguard goods and prevent pilferage or damage.
  • Develop contingency plans for operational disruptions and emergencies.

9. Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and monitor operational efficiency.
  • Provide periodic reports to senior management on operational performance, challenges, and improvement plans.
  • Continuously analyse operational processes and implement improvements.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 15+ years of experience in logistics, container freight station, or port operations, with at least 10 years in a senior leadership role
  • Proven experience in handling customs, yard operations, and vendor management
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance requirements
