Job Description:
Key responsibilities of a QC Engineer in a foundry:
  • Inspection and testing:
    Conducting thorough inspections of raw materials, molds, molten metal, and finished castings at various stages of production using various quality control methods like dimensional checks, visual inspections, and destructive testing. 
     
  • Quality control plan development:
    Creating and implementing detailed quality control plans based on customer requirements and industry standards, outlining specific inspection criteria and sampling procedures. 
     
  • Data analysis and reporting:
    Collecting and analyzing quality data from inspections, identifying trends, and generating reports to highlight potential quality issues and corrective actions needed. 
     
  • Non-conformance management:
    Investigating non-conforming parts, documenting deviations, and initiating corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. 
     
  • Process improvement:
    Identifying areas for improvement within the foundry operations and proposing solutions to enhance quality and efficiency. 
     
  • Auditing and compliance:
    Participating in internal and external audits to ensure compliance with relevant quality standards and regulations. 
     
  • Training and documentation:
    Providing training to production personnel on quality procedures and maintaining accurate quality documentation. 
     
 
Required skills for a QC Engineer in a foundry:
  • Technical knowledge:
    Strong understanding of casting processes, metallurgy, and quality control methodologies. 
     
  • Attention to detail:
    Ability to identify minute defects and inconsistencies during inspections. 
     
  • Analytical skills:
    Capability to analyze data, interpret results, and draw meaningful conclusions. 
     
  • Problem-solving skills:
    Identifying root causes of quality issues and implementing effective corrective actions. 
     
  • Communication skills:
    Clear communication with production personnel, management, and customers regarding quality concerns. 
     
  • Quality management systems knowledge:
    Familiarity with ISO standards and other relevant quality management systems.
