Job Description:

Job Title: Financial Controller

Location: Tanzania
Reports To: Group CFO / Managing Director


Key Responsibilities:

🔸 Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reports.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring compliance with IFRS and local accounting standards.
  • Conduct regular financial analysis, variance analysis, and cost control measures to optimize profitability.

🔸 Banking & Treasury Management

  • Manage all banking relationships, including corporate accounts, credit facilities, and forex transactions.
  • Negotiate favorable terms for banking facilities, loans, and trade finance instruments (LCs, BGs).
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and fund utilization to maintain optimal liquidity.
  • Ensure timely reconciliation of bank accounts and transactions.

🔸 Tanzanian Compliance & Taxation

  • Ensure compliance with Tanzanian tax laws, including VAT, corporate tax, PAYE, and WHT filings.
  • Liaise with TRA (Tanzania Revenue Authority) for audits, assessments, and dispute resolution.
  • Oversee compliance with statutory requirements for NSSF, WCF, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare and submit all required returns, including financial statements, to regulators and stakeholders.

🔸 Budgeting, Forecasting & Cost Control

  • Develop annual budgets and long-term financial projections in coordination with senior management.
  • Monitor budget adherence, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Implement cost-control strategies to improve operational efficiency.

🔸 Audit & Risk Management

  • Coordinate with external and internal auditors, ensuring smooth audit processes.
  • Implement robust internal controls to mitigate financial risks and ensure process integrity.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping to support audit trails.

🔸 Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounts team to achieve departmental goals.
  • Ensure cross-functional collaboration between finance and other departments.

Key Requirements:

  1. Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce. CPA, CMA, or ACCA qualification preferred.
  2. Experience:

    • 10+ years of progressive finance experience, including 5+ years in a senior role like Financial Controller or Finance Manager.
    • Strong background in accounting, banking operations, and treasury management.
    • Experience in Tanzanian taxation, statutory compliance, and TRA-related matters.
  3. Skills:

    • Proficient in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Candidate:

  • Experience working in Tanzania or other East African countries is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently, handle pressure, and meet tight deadlines
