Job Description:
A mining industry storekeeper is responsible for managing inventory, including receiving, storing, and distributing equipment, spare parts, and chemicals, while ensuring proper documentation and compliance with safety regulations. Key duties include maintaining accurate records, conducting stock counts, managing stock levels, and coordinating with suppliers and internal departments to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of materials. They are also responsible for maintaining the physical condition of the store, handling hazardous materials according to safety protocols, and generating reports on inventory status.
Core responsibilities

Receiving and inspection:Receive incoming materials, verifying quantities against purchase orders, and inspecting for damage or defects. Ensure all necessary documentation, such as certificates and safety data sheets, is included.

- Maintain accurate, real-time records of all inventory transactions (receipts, issues, returns).
- Use a computerized system (e.g., ERP/SAP) to manage inventory and generate reports.
- Implement and maintain a systematic storage and organization system with proper labeling.
- Conduct regular stock counts and reconcile discrepancies.
- Monitor stock levels to ensure they are within established minimum and maximum levels.
- Maintain accurate, real-time records of all inventory transactions (receipts, issues, returns).

- Fulfill material requisitions and issue requested items.
- Manage and authorize gate passes for material movement.

- Implement a first-in, first-out (FIFO) system to ensure older stock is used first.
- Monitor shelf life and initiate actions for expired or surplus materials.
- Ensure the safe and proper handling of all materials, especially hazardous or volatile substances.
- Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and organization of the storage areas.

- Generate purchase requisitions for replenishment based on inventory levels.
- Coordinate with suppliers for deliveries and manage vendor relationships.
- Ensure timely closure of open goods receipt/invoice receipt (GR/IR) issues.
