Job Description:
Overview:
A Diamond Grader is responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and grading diamonds based on the 4Cs (Carat, Cut, Color, and Clarity) using specialized tools and industry standards. They work in gemological laboratories, jewelry companies, diamond trading firms, or auction houses to ensure accurate assessment and certification of diamonds.
Key Responsibilities:
- Examine diamonds under microscopes and loupes to assess clarity and inclusions.
- Measure and record carat weight, cut quality, and dimensions using precision tools.
- Evaluate the color grade of diamonds under controlled lighting conditions.
- Identify and detect diamond treatments, enhancements, or synthetics.
- Use grading systems from organizations such as GIA (Gemological Institute of America), AGS, IGI, or HRD.
- Maintain detailed reports and certificates of graded diamonds.
- Ensure compliance with ethical sourcing and diamond certification standards.
- Work with jewelers, wholesalers, and auction houses to verify diamond quality.
- Stay updated on industry trends and new gemological techniques.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Gemology certification (GIA Graduate Gemologist (GG), FGA, or equivalent).
- Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Experience with gemological instruments (microscopes, spectrometers, diamond testers).
- Knowledge of diamond grading reports and industry standards.
- Ability to work in a lab setting with precision.
- Strong computer skills for reporting and record-keeping.
