Lead Piping Layout Engineer
Job Description:
The Piping Layout Lead Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design, development, and optimization of piping layouts for oil and gas projects. This role requires expertise in handling team of engineers and 3D modelers. Having expertise in industry codes, and project execution to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective Equipment Layout, piping arrangements. The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet client and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop piping layouts for onshore and offshore oil and gas facilities, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Oversee the preparation and review of 3D models, Piping Isometrics, and piping general arrangements.
- Ensure optimal piping layouts that enhance constructability, operability, and maintainability while minimizing costs.
- Conduct piping studies and interface management to resolve clashes, accessibility issues, and layout constraints.
- Coordinate with process, mechanical, structural, and instrumentation teams to ensure integrated and efficient design.
- Review and approve piping isometrics, support arrangements, and material take-offs (MTOs).
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards, such as ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, API, and client-specific guidelines.
- Lead and guide a team of piping designers and engineers, providing technical support and mentorship.
- Conduct design reviews, model reviews, and constructability studies to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Support procurement activities by providing input on vendor drawings, equipment layouts, and interface requirements.
- Work closely with site teams to support construction, resolve field issues, and ensure alignment with design intent.
- Participate in project risk assessments and provide mitigation strategies for layout-related challenges.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum 15-20 years of experience in piping layout engineering within the oil and gas industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Expertise in piping design principles, plant layout optimization, and stress analysis considerations.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as PDMS, E3D, Smart Plant 3D (SP3D), AutoCAD 2D, or similar tools.
- Strong knowledge of international design codes and standards (ASME, API, ISO, ASTM, etc.).
- Experience with modularization, skid-mounted piping, and offshore layout design is a plus.
- Familiarity with constructability, accessibility, safety, and operational requirements in piping design.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle complex layout challenges.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and ensure timely delivery of engineering deliverables.
