Job Description:
About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled Medical Underwriter with a strong medical background and relevant experience in medical underwriting. The ideal candidate will review insurance applications for life and disability coverage and assess risk based on medical history, ensuring alignment with company guidelines and minimizing adverse selection.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 18 months of experience in medical underwriting is mandatory.
- Must be a medical graduate with one of the following degrees:
- BPT, MPT, BHMS, BDS, BAMS (or equivalent).
- Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.
- Willingness to work US night shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze insurance applications for Group Life, Long-Term Disability, and/or Short-Term Disability Insurance.
- Evaluate applicants' medical history using tools such as Medical Information Bureau (MIB), medical records, and examination results.
- Make informed decisions based on company underwriting guidelines.
- Identify risk levels and determine eligibility for coverage.
- Ensure compliance with internal processes and regulatory requirements.
Skills Required:
- Sound understanding of medical terminology and body systems.
- Working knowledge of US healthcare and insurance processes (preferred).
- Ability to paraphrase medical information in clear, concise language.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel), internet usage, and basic IT systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
