Operations Manager – Retail Supermarket/Hypermarket
Location: On-Site | Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)


Company Overview:

A leading retail group in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is looking to hire a dynamic and experienced Operations Manager to oversee retail store operations across its supermarket and hypermarket network. The ideal candidate will have 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in retail operations, preferably in India, with a proven track record of success as a Store Manager or Area Manager in large-format retail environments.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Store Operations Management

  • Oversee daily operations of multiple supermarket/hypermarket locations to ensure smooth functioning, efficiency, and high service standards.

  • Monitor compliance with SOPs, hygiene standards, safety protocols, and visual merchandising guidelines.

  • Conduct regular store audits and surprise checks to ensure operational excellence.

2. Sales & Performance Monitoring

  • Achieve sales targets and monitor store-level performance metrics (footfall, sales per sq. ft., conversion rate, etc.).

  • Analyze sales trends and implement corrective measures to improve productivity and profitability.

  • Collaborate with the merchandising team to ensure the right product mix and timely stock replenishment.

3. Team Management & Staff Development

  • Lead, coach, and manage a team of store managers, supervisors, and floor staff across locations.

  • Conduct regular training sessions on customer service, SOPs, and product knowledge.

  • Motivate staff to achieve sales targets and maintain high customer satisfaction.

4. Customer Experience Management

  • Ensure exceptional customer service standards across all retail outlets.

  • Resolve escalated customer complaints and implement feedback mechanisms for continuous improvement.

  • Create strategies to enhance loyalty, in-store engagement, and customer retention.

5. Inventory & Stock Control

  • Monitor stock levels, ensure timely reordering, and minimize stock-outs or excess inventory.

  • Oversee stock audits, shrinkage control measures, and inventory accuracy at store level.

  • Work closely with the supply chain team for timely inward logistics and inter-branch stock transfers.

6. Store Launch & Expansion Support

  • Assist in the setup and launch of new stores, including layout planning, staffing, and opening execution.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams for smooth roll-out and post-launch support.

7. Reporting & Communication

  • Generate and present regular MIS reports on sales, performance, staffing, and operational challenges.

  • Maintain clear communication with head office and other departments (HR, Finance, Logistics, etc.) for seamless coordination.


Key Requirements:

  • Experience: 10–15 years in retail operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or multi-store role.

  • Background: Strong experience as a Store Manager / Area Manager in supermarkets or hypermarkets.

  • Geographic Preference: Must have work experience in India; African or international exposure is an advantage.

  • Education: Graduate in Business Administration, Retail Management, or related field. MBA preferred.

  • Skills:

    • Strong leadership, organizational, and analytical skills

    • Hands-on knowledge of store operations, customer service, merchandising, and inventory control

    • Proficiency in MS Office, retail POS systems, and ERP tools
