Company Overview:

A leading and diversified retail group in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is looking to hire an experienced and proactive Hygiene Manager to lead and implement hygiene and sanitation protocols across its retail, food, and warehouse operations. The ideal candidate should have 10 to 15 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in manufacturing, retail, food processing, or related industries.

Candidates currently working in roles such as Quality Control Manager, Hygiene Manager, Assistant Hygiene Manager, Hygiene Executive, or Hygiene Supervisor are preferred.


Job Summary:

The Hygiene Manager will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring hygiene standards across all facilities to ensure food safety, regulatory compliance, and a healthy work environment. This includes sanitation procedures, audits, training, and coordination with cross-functional teams. The role demands a deep understanding of hygiene protocols in food handling, cleaning processes, pest control, and waste management.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Hygiene & Sanitation Protocols

  • Develop, implement, and maintain hygiene and sanitation SOPs for stores, kitchens, warehouses, and other facilities.

  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards (HACCP, ISO, FSSAI, etc.).

  • Lead daily and scheduled cleaning inspections and implement corrective actions as needed.

2. Audits & Compliance

  • Conduct regular hygiene audits and surprise inspections to evaluate cleanliness and compliance.

  • Prepare audit reports and submit actionable improvement plans.

  • Coordinate with local authorities and ensure compliance with health and sanitation regulations.

3. Team Leadership & Training

  • Lead the hygiene team and supervise Hygiene Officers, Supervisors, and housekeeping staff.

  • Organize training programs on hygiene practices, safety protocols, personal hygiene, and food safety for staff.

  • Create awareness programs for store and kitchen staff on hygiene best practices.

4. Pest Control & Waste Management

  • Oversee pest control schedules and coordinate with vendors for periodic treatments.

  • Monitor solid and liquid waste disposal systems to ensure eco-friendly and compliant practices.

  • Ensure all waste segregation and disposal activities follow hygiene protocols.

5. Quality Assurance Coordination

  • Work closely with the quality control and operations teams to ensure hygiene is integrated into all food and non-food processes.

  • Maintain documentation for hygiene checks, incident logs, and risk assessments.

  • Participate in new store setups to guide infrastructure for hygiene and sanitation standards.

6. Incident Management & Reporting

  • Investigate hygiene-related incidents or complaints and implement preventive actions.

  • Maintain hygiene incident logs and follow up on reported issues until resolution.

  • Report hygiene performance metrics to senior management on a regular basis.


Key Requirements:

  • Experience: 10 to 15 years of experience in hygiene, sanitation, or quality control, with minimum 5 years in a leadership capacity in a retail, food, or manufacturing setup.

  • Current/Previous Roles: Must have worked as Hygiene Manager, Assistant Hygiene Manager, QC Executive, QC Manager, Hygiene Supervisor, or similar.

  • Education: Degree/Diploma in Food Technology, Microbiology, Hotel Management, Environmental Health, or related fields preferred.

  • Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of hygiene and sanitation practices in retail/food environments

    • Experience with HACCP, ISO standards, and statutory compliance

    • Leadership and training abilities

    • Excellent communication and reporting skills
