Job Title: Business Development Manager – Supermarket
Department: Sales & Business Development
Reports to: General Manager / Head of Operations
Job Purpose:
The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for identifying growth opportunities, forging strategic partnerships, and expanding the supermarket’s customer base and product offerings. The role focuses on increasing revenue, improving market share, and ensuring sustained profitability through innovation and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Business Development & Sales:
- Identify and develop new business opportunities, including bulk sales, institutional sales, and corporate tie-ups.
- Develop and implement strategic sales plans to achieve targets and market penetration.
- Monitor market trends, customer needs, and competitor activities to adjust strategies accordingly.
- Vendor & Supplier Management:
- Source and onboard new suppliers and local vendors to enhance product variety and profitability.
- Negotiate favorable terms and pricing to ensure competitive advantage.
- Build long-term relationships with key suppliers and partners.
- Customer Relationship Management:
- Strengthen relationships with existing customers through loyalty programs, feedback mechanisms, and targeted promotions.
- Address customer concerns and ensure high satisfaction levels.
- Marketing & Promotion:
- Collaborate with the marketing team to plan and execute in-store promotions, seasonal campaigns, and community engagement activities.
- Recommend initiatives for footfall improvement and brand visibility.
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
- Analyze sales reports and market feedback to assess performance.
- Prepare weekly/monthly reports highlighting growth areas, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
- Cross-functional Coordination:
- Coordinate with store managers, procurement, logistics, and finance to ensure seamless execution of business plans.
- Participate in weekly management reviews and planning meetings.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Retail Management, or a related field (MBA preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in business development, preferably in the retail/supermarket/FMCG sector.
- Strong understanding of retail operations, customer behavior, and local market dynamics.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and retail management systems.
