Senior Project Manager/Leader
Job Description:
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager/Leader to oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of complex, high-impact projects that are transforming public service delivery across Ontario. This role requires a results-oriented leader with a strong background in managing large-scale, multi-stakeholder IT initiatives within regulated or public sector environments.
You will be responsible for driving the successful delivery of project outcomes while mentoring junior team members and ensuring alignment with government standards and processes. This is a strategic and hands-on role, suited to professionals who thrive under pressure and tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Project & Product Delivery
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, roadmaps, and timelines.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver project milestones on time and within budget.
- Prioritize features and tasks based on value, feasibility, and strategic goals.
- Lead risk management efforts, identifying and mitigating issues proactively.
- Stakeholder Management
- Facilitate regular project updates and communication with stakeholders and executives.
- Build strong working relationships with ministry representatives, delivery teams, and partners.
- Ensure transparency and stakeholder alignment across all project phases.
- Team Leadership
- Mentor and support junior project/product managers.
- Promote a collaborative, high-performance team culture.
- Provide guidance and knowledge transfer to ministry staff.
- Compliance & Governance
- Adhere to Ontario Public Sector standards, including the PMO Stage Gate process, ITIL, and I&IT directives.
- Ensure deliverables meet Ministry standards and are submitted for timely approval.
- Maintain documentation and reporting in accordance with best practices and audit requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Project Management (50%)
- 10+ years’ experience managing complex, multi-phase IT projects, preferably in government or regulated environments.
- Proven track record delivering large-scale, multi-year, multi-million-dollar programs.
- Strong capabilities in managing scope, schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation.
- Knowledge of structured project methodologies (Agile, Scrum, PMBOK, etc.)
- Familiarity with Ontario Public Sector processes and compliance documentation.
- Technical Tools & Methodologies (20%)
- Proficient in project tools: Jira, Trello, Azure DevOps, MS Project.
- Comfortable with Miro, Microsoft Teams, and Confluence for collaboration.
- Understanding of Microsoft Azure and cloud-based deployments.
- Experience documenting business cases, roadmaps, impact assessments.
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement (20%)
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Skilled at executive-level reporting and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to facilitate feedback loops and align diverse project teams.
- Leadership & Soft Skills (10%)
- Experience mentoring junior staff and fostering a collaborative team environment.
- High adaptability in dynamic, high-pressure settings.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Successful project delivery under tight deadlines and in high-pressure environments.
- Demonstrated leadership in multi-stakeholder, complex government or enterprise IT projects.
- Ability to manage large budgets and competing priorities.
- Effective communicator, both written and verbal.
Additional Information
- Hybrid Work Arrangement: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote.
- No travel expenses covered.
- Maximum extension: 1 term possible beyond original contract.
- Government guidelines and directives compliance required.
