Job Description:
An Environmental Officer ensures an organization meets environmental laws and sustainability goals by conducting inspections, monitoring pollution, managing waste, developing strategies, preparing reports, and educating staff/public on compliance, regulations, and best practices for minimizing environmental impact. Their role involves technical analysis, enforcement, incident response, and promoting eco-friendly practices within various settings like construction sites, factories, or corporate offices. 
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Compliance & Enforcement: Inspecting sites, monitoring air/water/soil quality, investigating pollution, and ensuring adherence to environmental laws and standards.
  • Strategy & Management: Developing and implementing environmental policies, sustainability targets, waste management plans, and strategies to reduce impact.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Collecting samples, analyzing data, assessing environmental impact, and writing comprehensive reports for management or regulatory bodies.
  • Education & Training: Conducting awareness campaigns, training staff, and advising stakeholders on environmental responsibilities and procedures.
  • Technical Support: Providing expert advice on pollution control technologies, environmental impact assessments (EIAs), and emergency response. 
 
Common Duties
  • Liaising with local authorities and contractors.
  • Managing site-specific environmental programs.
  • Overseeing environmental aspects of construction/decommissioning projects.
  • Promoting sustainable procurement and practices. 
 
Skills Required
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and compliance.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills for training and liaison.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections and investigations.
