Job Description:
The Head of HR for a steel manufacturing plant leads all HR functions (recruitment, C&B, talent, IR/ER, compliance, L&D) ensuring alignment with business goals, with a strong emphasis on ** industrial relationsstatutory compliance (Factory Act, ESI, PF), and union management** in a heavy industrial environment, bridging strategy with daily plant operations, focusing on safety, performance, and cultural alignment for a large, often unionized, workforce. 
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic HR: Develop and implement HR strategy aligned with plant/corporate objectives; manage HR budgets.
  • Talent Management: Oversee end-to-end recruitment (technical & leadership), onboarding, performance management, succession planning, and leadership development.
  • Industrial & Employee Relations (IR/ER): Handle union negotiations, grievance redressal, disciplinary actions, and maintain harmonious labor relations.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure 100% compliance with labor laws, Factory Act, CLRA, ESI, PF, and promote a strong safety culture.
  • HR Operations: Manage payroll, HRIS, compensation & benefits, and HR administration.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary contact for labor departments, factories inspectorate, and local authorities.
  • Culture & Engagement: Champion a positive work environment, drive employee engagement, and reinforce company values. 
 
Essential Skills & Experience:
  • MBA/PGDM in HR from a reputed institute.
  • Extensive experience (10-20+ years) in HR leadership, with significant time in plant HR in heavy industries (Steel, Metals, Heavy Engineering).
  • Strong knowledge of Indian labor laws and factory administration.
  • Proven ability in managing large workforces, including contract labor, and handling unions.
  • Experience with HR transformation and digital tools (HRMS/ERP like SAP).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
