Job Summary: A Fabrication Fitter is responsible for accurately reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to lay out, position, align, and fit together components for welding. This role requires a strong understanding of various fabrication techniques, material properties, and safety procedures to ensure the production of high-quality, precise fabricated structures. The Fabrication Fitter plays a crucial role in the overall manufacturing process, working closely with welders, engineers, and quality control personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpretation of Technical Documents:

    • Read and accurately interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and work orders to understand fabrication requirements, dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications.

    • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers.

  • Layout and Marking:

    • Lay out and mark dimensions and reference points on materials, such as steel, aluminum, or other alloys, according to drawings and specifications.

    • Utilize various measuring tools including tape measures, squares, levels, protractors, and scribes.

  • Material Handling and Preparation:

    • Select appropriate materials and components for the job.

    • Cut, grind, drill, and shape metal components using hand tools, power tools, and machinery (e.g., band saws, grinders, drills).

    • Clean and prepare surfaces for welding, ensuring proper fit-up and joint configuration.

  • Fitting and Assembly:

    • Position, align, fit, and secure parts and assemblies prior to welding, using various methods such as clamping, bolting, and tack welding.

    • Check for proper alignment, angles, and dimensions to ensure structural integrity and adherence to specifications.

    • Work with precision to achieve tight tolerances and minimize distortion.

  • Quality Control:

    • Perform in-process quality checks to ensure all dimensions, angles, and specifications are met.

    • Identify and report any discrepancies, defects, or issues with materials or components.

    • Ensure all work complies with quality standards and safety regulations.

  • Collaboration and Communication:
