Experience Required: 10–20 years in raw material procurement, preferably in steel or manufacturing industries
Qualification: B.E./B.Tech / MBA in Supply Chain / Materials Management / Any relevant field

Job Summary:

The Raw Material Procurement Head is responsible for strategic sourcing, procurement planning, vendor management, and cost-effective purchasing of key raw materials (e.g., iron ore, coal, ferro alloys, scrap, dolomite, etc.) for smooth and uninterrupted plant operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement procurement strategies for key raw materials.

• Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers and vendors across India and abroad.

• Ensure timely procurement of quality raw materials at competitive prices.

• Negotiate terms, pricing, and delivery schedules with vendors.

• Monitor and analyze market trends and commodity pricing.

• Plan monthly, quarterly, and annual raw material requirements in coordination with production planning.

• Maintain adequate inventory levels while avoiding overstocking.

• Ensure compliance with all legal, commercial, and quality standards.

• Manage import documentation and customs clearance (if applicable).

• Evaluate supplier performance and maintain a qualified vendor database.

• Lead and guide the procurement team across units or plants.

• Coordinate with finance, logistics, and operations for smooth procurement cycle.

Skills & Competencies Required:

• Strong knowledge of raw materials used in the industry (e.g., iron, coal, coke, ferro alloys, scrap)

• Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills

• Deep understanding of logistics, warehousing, and transportation

• Proficiency in ERP/SAP-based procurement systems

• Strong analytical and market research skills

• Ability to handle multi-location procurement

• Strategic thinking and leadership skills

• Sound knowledge of import/export procedures (if applicable)
