Experience: 7–10 years of industrial maintenance experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
Linguistic Skills: Fluent in English (Written & Spoken)
Age: Minimum 35 years old
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or a related field).
- Proficient in SAP or a similar CMMS/ERP system.
- Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing machinery, utilities, and vehicle maintenance.
- Demonstrated experience managing multicultural teams (including expatriate and local staff).
- Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Maintenance Manager to lead all aspects of machinery, vehicle, and
infrastructure maintenance at our high-capacity manufacturing facility, which operates over 150 machines and a fleet of
approximately 40 vehicles. This role requires a hands-on leader with a strong technical background, excellent organizational
skills, and the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex maintenance systems.
Key Result Areas
- General Maintenance
- Supervise and lead the breakdown maintenance team, ensuring any breakdown is attended to immediately, ensuring response to machine failures and resolution within 24 hours.
- Supervise and lead the preventative maintenance team to ensure adherence to a structured and timely
maintenance schedule for all major machines.
- Lead the site Maintenance function in providing both a reactive and proactive, multi-skilled maintenance services on all production equipment, infrastructure and vehicle fleet.
- To implement and manage continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principles by highlighting
deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes.
- Effectively delegate any maintenance issues to be resolved to the right skilled personnel in the team,
- Assess and ensure compliance of the engineering data systems.
- Manage the team to ensure machine availability, optimize equipment according to standard procedure, enhancing performance and product quality,
- Ensure routine calibration of engineering measurement equipment.
- Perform root cause analysis and resolve machine technical problems.
- Ensure that all electrical equipment is in good working condition
- Ensuring the achievement of all Key Performance Indicators.
- Perform other responsibilities that may arise.
- Vehicle Maintenance
- Supervise the Vehicle Maintenance Officer (1 Ugandan) to ensure full maintenance and servicing of the company fleet (~40 vehicles).
- Oversee outsourced vehicle repairs and servicing, ensuring cost control, quality, and compliance with standards.
- Track maintenance schedules, repair logs, and vehicle performance data.
- Sign garage forms
- Sourcing & Procurement Support
- Collaborate with the procurement team to identify reliable suppliers of spare parts and consumables.
- Evaluate quotations and assist in supplier selection to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness, with an overall aim of reducing maintenance cost
- Monitor supplier performance and maintain updated vendor list
- Spare Parts & Inventory Control
- Maintain oversight of spare parts inventory, ensuring accurate stock records, issue/receipt tracking, and regular stock audits.
- Prevent stock-outs of critical spares while avoiding overstocking or redundancy.
- Ensure that all spare part consumption is justified and traceable to specific machines.
- Develop clear accountability for maintenance tools and with a strategy to manage expenditure
- Maintenance Software & Reporting
- Ensure all maintenance activities (breakdowns, preventive, corrective) are logged accurately in SAP.
- Guarantee all spares and consumables are booked against specific machines in SAP for precise cost tracking.
- Generate maintenance reports and analyze KPIs such as MTTR, MTBF, and maintenance cost per machine.
- Project Management
- Lead or support installation, relocation, or overhaul of machines and infrastructure.
- Plan and execute improvement projects, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams, and for layout modifications and process enhancements
- Coordinate with third party service providers for any outsourced work.
- Manage the process of disposal of obsolete machinery, plant and equipment from gaining agreement to write off to physically removing it and its safe and lawful disposal from the facility.
- Energy & Utilities Management
- Oversee the efficient use of utilities (electricity, water, compressed air, etc.) within the plant.
- Implement energy conservation initiatives and monitor utility usage to reduce costs.
- Maintain strong relationships with national utility providers and act as the point of contact for utility issues or projects.
- Contractor & Vendor Management
- Supervise third-party contractors on-site to ensure safe practices and high-quality work.
- Evaluate and select service vendors for specialized technical services as needed.
- Manage service contracts and enforce performance standards.
- Continuous Improvement
- Implement and promote Lean Maintenance practices (e.g., TPM, 5S, Kaizen).
- Analyze trends and root causes of failures to improve reliability and reduce recurring issues.
- Drive adoption of best practices and innovative maintenance techniques.
- Documentation & Technical Support
- Maintain up-to-date records of all machinery manuals, schematics, service logs, and standard operating procedures.
- Provide technical guidance and support to solve complex maintenance issues.
- Assist production and quality teams in troubleshooting machinery-related problems.
- Human Resource Management
- Recruit and onboard new maintenance personnel as needed.
- Identify skill gaps and lead training initiatives for the Breakdown and Preventive Maintenance teams.
- Foster a positive team environment focused on accountability, safety, and continuous development.
