Junior Java Developer

Job Description:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are looking for a motivated Junior Java Developer with 2–5 years of experience to join our engineering team. The candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing scalable backend applications and REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot.

You will work closely with senior developers, architects, QA engineers, DevOps teams, and product teams to build reliable, secure, and high-quality software solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and maintain backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Design and develop RESTful APIs and integrate with internal and external services.
• Write clean, maintainable, reusable, and efficient code.
• Implement business logic based on functional and technical requirements.
• Work with relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Write SQL queries, stored procedures, and optimise database operations when required.
• Perform unit testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of applications.
• Identify and resolve production and development issues.
• Participate in code reviews and follow development best practices.
• Work with Git for source code management.
• Develop integrations with third-party APIs and external systems.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, DevOps engineers, and product teams.
• Understand existing codebases and contribute to enhancements and bug fixes.
• Follow secure coding, logging, error-handling, and performance best practices.
• Contribute to technical documentation as required.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Java
• Strong knowledge of Core Java and OOP concepts.
• Good understanding of Collections, Exception Handling, Streams, Generics, and Multithreading.
• Good knowledge of Java 8+ features.

Spring / Spring Boot
• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot.
• Experience developing REST APIs.
• Good understanding of Spring MVC.
• Experience with Spring Data JPA / Hibernate.
• Basic knowledge of Spring Security is preferred.

Database
• Good knowledge of MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Ability to write complex SQL queries.
• Understanding of database relationships, indexes, transactions, and query optimisation.
• Hands-on experience with JPA/Hibernate.

OTHER TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Good understanding of REST, JSON, HTTP/HTTPS.
• Experience with Git/GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket.
• Familiarity with Maven or Gradle.
• Understanding of microservices architecture is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of Docker and AWS/cloud environments is a plus.
• Exposure to message queues such as AWS SQS or Kafka is a plus.

GOOD TO HAVE

• Experience with AWS services such as S3, SQS, ECS/EKS, RDS, or Lambda.
• Experience working with microservices architecture.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of caching technologies such as Redis.
• Experience with Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Familiarity with JUnit and Mockito.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of professional experience in Java development.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to understand existing systems and troubleshoot issues independently.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and work across different areas of the product.
