Job Description:
A DCS Turbine Operator monitors and controls a power plant's turbine operations through a Distributed Control System (DCS) to ensure efficiency and safety. Key responsibilities include operating control boards, regulating equipment based on instrument data, performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and recording operational data. The role requires technical skills, quick decision-making, and the ability to work in a team environment, often with rotating shifts.
Key responsibilities

Operate and control:Use control boards and semi-automatic equipment to start, stop, and adjust turbines, monitoring parameters like speed, temperature, and pressure through the DCS.

Monitor and regulate:Analyze data from instruments, gauges, and computers to maintain optimal operating conditions and respond to changes in load.

Troubleshoot and maintain:Diagnose and resolve process upsets and equipment malfunctions. Perform cleaning, lubrication, and routine maintenance on equipment to prevent failure.

Record and report:Accurately record all operational data, complete logs, and prepare shift and event reports.

Coordinate:Communicate with other plant personnel to regulate and coordinate loads, frequencies, and voltages.
Qualifications and skills

Education:Typically requires a B.E. or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. An ITI certificate may also be acceptable for some roles.

Experience:Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a turbine operator in a power plant, specifically with DCS-based systems.

Technical skills:
- Familiarity with specific DCS systems (e.g., Siemens, Yokogawa, ABB, Honeywell).
- Understanding of turbine auxiliaries, such as the governing system, lube oil system, and condenser units.
- Knowledge of instrument and control systems, including field instrumentation, transmitters, and valves.
- Familiarity with specific DCS systems (e.g., Siemens, Yokogawa, ABB, Honeywell).
