Job Description:
A turbine field operator is responsible for the safe and efficient day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of turbine systems, which can include steam, gas, or wind turbines. Key duties include starting and stopping turbines, adjusting controls for optimal performance, monitoring equipment, performing routine maintenance and repairs, adhering to safety protocols, and documenting operational data. This role requires strong technical skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues and work collaboratively with a team.
Core responsibilities
- Operation and control: Start up and shut down turbines, and use control boards or semi-automatic equipment to regulate speed, pressure, and temperature.
- Monitoring and inspection: Regularly check instruments, gauges, and meters to ensure proper functioning and identify any abnormalities. Conduct field checks and inspect equipment.
- Maintenance and troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance like cleaning and lubrication, and conduct repairs on faulty components. Troubleshoot and diagnose operational issues.
- Safety and compliance: Adhere strictly to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and other guidelines. Participate in safety training and drills.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of equipment performance, maintenance activities, and operational parameters. Prepare reports on equipment status and issues.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with other operators and maintenance teams to ensure smooth operations and share important information.
Required skills and knowledge
- Understanding of turbine systems and auxiliary equipment (e.g., pumps, compressors, cooling systems).
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and environmental compliance.
- Ability to read and interpret instrument and control panels.
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and lubrication.
- For power plant operators, a background in math and science, especially algebra and trigonometry, is beneficial.
