Export Manager
Location: Kolkata, West Bengal
Reporting to: Head of Export / International Sales Director
Department: Export & International Business Development

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the overall export strategy for the company’s food / snack / FMCG product portfolio, aiming for volume growth, profitability, and market diversification.

  • Identify new export markets (geographical and channel-wise) and build a pipeline of international business opportunities.

  • Build and maintain strong customer/distributor relationships overseas: negotiate contracts, manage terms, follow through with order confirmation, dispatch, and after-sales service.

  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, regulatory changes (both domestic export compliance and destination country import rules), tariffs/duties, and ensure compliance with export documentation, licensing, customs, international payment terms.

  • Coordination with internal teams: Manufacturing/Production, Quality Assurance, Packaging, Logistics, Finance (export bills, LC, documentary credit), Warehousing to ensure timely shipment, product integrity, packaging compliance, delivery to customers.

  • Manage export pricing, costing, margin analysis, export incentives, duties drawback, Free Trade Zone (if applicable) & other governmental benefits.

  • Lead the export sales team (if applicable): hire/train/mentor, set targets, monitor performance, conduct regular reviews.

  • Prepare export sales forecasts, budgets, monthly/quarterly/annual reports on export performance, KPIs (volume, revenue, margin, market share, new countries).

  • Represent the company at international trade fairs, exhibitions, buyer meetings, overseas trips as required.

  • Ensure all export packaging, labeling, shelf-life requirements meet destination country standards (food safety, food laws, import clearances).

  • Collaborate with marketing to create export promotional material and support distributor training in overseas markets.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, International Business, Marketing, or related field. A master’s degree would be an added advantage.

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on export sales / export business development experience, ideally within the FMCG food processing industry. (A recent job posting for this role mentions “Min. 10 years” for the export manager role. Apna

  • Proven track record of achieving export sales targets, launching new markets, negotiating export contracts.

  • Strong knowledge of international trade practices, export documentation, Incoterms, letters of credit (LC), foreign exchange, currency risks, export incentives.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships with overseas customers/distributors.

  • Analytical mindset: able to assess market data, competitor activity, customer preference and adjust strategy accordingly.

  • Good organisational skills, ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines under changing conditions.

  • Willingness to travel internationally and handle cross-functional coordination.

  • Fluent in English; knowledge of additional languages used in target export markets is a plus.

  • Familiarity with ERP/DMS/CRM systems helpful.
