Role Overview
The Mortgage Credit Analyst is responsible for assessing home loan applications for Australian clients in accordance with Australian lending guidelines. The role involves detailed financial analysis, risk assessment, verification of documents, and ensuring compliance with lender policies and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Credit Assessment & Analysis
- Review and analyze borrower financials including income, bank statements, tax returns, pay slips, liabilities, and credit reports.
- Assess serviceability as per Australian lending calculators and lender policies.
- Evaluate borrower creditworthiness and recommend approval, decline, or further review.
- Identify potential credit risks and apply appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Documentation & Verification
- Verify supporting documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure compliance with Responsible Lending Obligations (NCCP Act).
- Check property-related documents such as valuation reports, purchase contracts, and identification (KYC).
- Compliance & Policy Adherence
- Follow lending guidelines of major Australian banks and non-bank lenders.
- Ensure adherence to internal SOPs and Australian regulatory frameworks (ASIC, APRA).
- Maintain data accuracy and uphold audit standards.
- Communication & Coordination
- Coordinate with mortgage brokers, internal teams, and lenders for clarifications.
- Communicate any missing information or discrepancies.
- Maintain professional written and verbal communication as per Australian business standards.
- Reporting & Process Management
- Update loan processing systems and CRM tools.
- Maintain daily productivity and quality benchmarks.
- Prepare periodic MIS reports for loan status, approvals, and risk flags.
Skills & Competencies Required
- Strong analytical and numerical ability.
- Knowledge of Australian mortgage industry, lending guidelines, LMI, serviceability, and loan structures.
- Proficiency in reading financial documents and identifying red flags.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills (email drafting, documentation clarity).
- Ability to work on multiple applications and meet turnaround times (TAT).
Preferred Experience
- 1–5 years of experience in Australian mortgage processing/credit analysis.
- Exposure to tools such as:
- ApplyOnline, NextGen
- Broker platforms
- Australian serviceability calculators
- Experience with Australian banks (CBA, ANZ, Westpac, NAB) or non-bank lenders is an advantage.
