Job Title: Tool Room Engineer Department: Engineering / Manufacturing Reports To: Tool Room Manager / Production Manager Location: [Insert Location] Employment Type: Full-Time Job Summary: The Tool Room Engineer is responsible for managing, maintaining, and improving the tool room operations, including the design, manufacture, modification, repair, and maintenance of tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and precision components. This role ensures high standards of quality, efficiency, and safety in support of production and R&D activities. Key Responsibilities: • Design, develop, and modify tools, jigs, dies, molds, and fixtures using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks). • Operate and supervise the use of tool room machinery such as milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, CNC machines, and EDMs. • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on tooling to reduce downtime and ensure longevity. • Maintain tool inventory, ensuring availability and traceability of all tools and components. • Collaborate with production, quality, and design teams to address tooling issues or enhancements. • Troubleshoot tooling issues on the shop floor and implement corrective actions. • Ensure all tool room activities comply with safety standards and company policies. • Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs and improve efficiency. • Maintain detailed documentation for all tool designs, repairs, and changes. • Support new product development with rapid prototyping and tool fabrication. Required Qualifications: • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Tool Engineering / Production Engineering or equivalent. • 3–5 years of experience in a tool room environment, preferably in a manufacturing or automotive sector. • Proficient in CAD/CAM software and CNC programming. • Strong knowledge of machining processes and tool steel properties. • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and tolerances. • Familiarity with ISO/TS quality standards is an advantage. • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. Desirable Skills: • Experience with mold/tool design (plastic injection, press tools, die-casting, etc.) • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma knowledge. • Hands-on experience with measuring instruments (vernier caliper, micrometer, CMM, etc.) • ERP system knowledge for tool inventory and maintenance tracking.
