A Production Manager in the sheet metal industry is responsible for overseeing the entire manufacturing process, ensuring products are produced efficiently, meet quality standards, and are delivered on time. Key Responsibilities
  • Production Planning and Control: Plan, organize, and control daily operations and production schedules to meet targets and deadlines.
  • Process Management: Oversee all aspects of the sheet metal process, including laser cutting, punching, bending, welding, fabrication, and assembly.
  • Resource Allocation: Ensure optimal utilization of manpower, machinery (CNC, VMC, etc.), and materials to maximize performance and minimize delays.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and monitor quality control processes to ensure all products meet industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949) and customer specifications.
  • Continuous Improvement: Implement Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement techniques to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, optimize cycle times, and boost productivity
  • Team Leadership & Safety: Lead, motivate, and guide production teams, ensuring adherence to safety and health regulations, and fostering a safe working environment.
  • Troubleshooting: Address and resolve production issues, such as equipment malfunctions or supply chain disruptions, coordinating with maintenance and quality teams as needed.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate production documentation, track KPIs, analyze performance data, and report progress to senior management.
  • Coordination: Liaise with other departments, including design/R&D, quality, supply chain, and sales, to ensure seamless operations and new product development (NPD) initiatives
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering is typically required.
  • Experience: Significant experience (typically 5-10+ years, depending on seniority) in sheet metal production or a related heavy fabrication/manufacturing environment, often within specific sectors like automotive.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep expertise in sheet metal processes (stamping, forming, fabrication, coating) and proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings (2D/3D) and using relevant software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
  • Soft Skills: Strong leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills are essential for managing teams and coordinating across departments.
  • Certifications: Knowledge of quality and safety standards such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or IOSH qualifications is often preferred
