Job Description:
An Environmental Laboratory Technician collects, prepares, and analyzes samples of water, soil, and air to detect contaminants and ensure regulatory compliance. Working in labs or the field, they operate testing equipment, manage data, and maintain quality control standards. Typically, an associate's degree in science and 6+ months of experience is required.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Sample Collection & Preparation: Collect water, soil, and air samples from various sites, properly documenting and preserving them for analysis.
- Laboratory Analysis: Perform chemical, biological, and physical tests to identify contaminants and measure pollutant levels.
- Equipment Maintenance: Calibrate, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments (e.g., pH meters, spectrometers) and troubleshoot malfunctions.
- Data Management: Record, interpret, and enter test data into a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and prepare reports.
- Compliance & Safety: Adhere to EPA, OSHA, and strict Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) protocols.
