Job Description:
A Melter for an Induction Furnace operates and monitors the furnace to melt metals, ensuring correct composition and quality by managing charging, temperature, and tapping, while coordinating with crane operators, preparing documentation, maintaining equipment, and strictly following safety procedures (PPE, SOPs) for producing various steel grades or alloys.
- Furnace Operation: Operate induction furnaces, controlling panels and manual settings for melting processes.
- Material Management: Calculate and manage charge mixes, load scrap/raw materials, and coordinate with crane operators for charging/tapping.
- Quality Control: Monitor metal chemistry, temperature, and ensure adherence to quality standards for specific steel grades (e.g., alloy, carbon).
- Safety & Maintenance: Wear appropriate PPE, maintain clean work areas, follow SOPs, report issues, and assist with furnace lining maintenance.
- Documentation: Prepare production reports, track heat data, and maintain records.
- Coordination: Work with supervisors, crane operators, and other crew members.
- Experience in induction furnace operation, lining, and sintering.
- Knowledge of different steel types (C.I., S.G., Alloys) and melting processes.
- Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
- Ability to work in hot, dusty environments and lift heavy loads.
- Strong safety focus and ability to follow instructions.
- Foundry or steel melting shop.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures and dust.
- Shift work, potentially including weekends.
