Job Description:
A Fitter for a Steel Melting Shop (SMS) with Induction Furnace experience performs mechanical tasks like installing, maintaining, and repairing heavy machinery in the steelmaking area, focusing on induction furnaces, cranes, and casting equipment, ensuring operational efficiency through preventative upkeep, breakdown response, and adhering to strict safety and quality standards in a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance & Repair: Perform planned and breakdown maintenance on induction furnaces (coils, crucibles), ladles, cranes, conveyors, and other SMS equipment.
- Installation: Assemble, install, and commission new mechanical equipment within the SMS.
- Preventative Maintenance: Execute scheduled preventive maintenance tasks and lubrication to minimize downtime.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues quickly to maintain continuous production flow.
- Fabrication: Cut, align, and fit various metal parts and components for repairs or new installations.
- Documentation: Maintain records of maintenance, repairs, and equipment status.
- Safety: Adhere to strict health, safety, and environmental regulations in the plant.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Hands-on experience with heavy industrial machinery, specifically in a Steel Melting Shop (SMS).
- Knowledge of induction furnaces, charging systems, casting equipment, and material handling systems.
- Proficiency in fitting, assembly, welding (often required), and using hand/power tools.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics.
- Strong understanding of mechanical principles and preventive maintenance best practices.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced industrial setting within a steel plant.
- Involves working with high temperatures, heavy loads, and electrical hazards.
- Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is common.
