Job Description:

• Interpret technical documents: Read and understand blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications to plan layouts and welding procedures.
• Fabricate and assemble: Cut, position, align, and fit components to produce forms, molds, and frames for castable refractory products, often using jigs or fixtures.
• Perform welding operations: Use various welding techniques (MIG and occasional stick/arc welding are common) in different positions (flat, vertical, or overhead).
• Operate equipment: Safely operate welding machines, hand and power tools (grinders, saws, torches), and material handling equipment like forklifts or overhead cranes.
• Inspect and test welds: Check completed welds for quality, accuracy, and flaws to ensure they meet required specifications and industry standards (e.g., ISO 5817, AWS).
• Maintain equipment and work area: Perform minor maintenance on welding equipment and keep the work area clean and organized in compliance with safety standards.
• Collaborate with teams: Work with fabricators, engineers, and other personnel to ensure projects are completed on time and to the required specifications.
• Adhere to safety protocols: Diligently follow all safety regulations and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, face shields, and safety shoes. 

• Education/Certification: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Certification from a recognized welding program (e.g., American Welding Society (AWS)) is highly desirable.
• Experience: Proven experience as a welder/fabricator, particularly with MIG and/or stick welding, is often necessary.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in various welding techniques and equipment operation.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols.
  • Strong math and measurement skills (using calipers, rulers, gauges, etc.).
  • Knowledge of metal properties and fabrication processes.
• Physical Demands:
  • Physical strength and stamina to lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs. or more) and stand for long periods.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and a steady hand for precision work.
  • Ability to work in various physical positions and environments, sometimes in confined spaces or at heights.
• Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
