Role Overview The General Manager – Operations will be responsible for managing the complete factory operations at the Sarigam facility. The role involves driving production performance, maintaining strong quality standards, building and leading teams, controlling costs, and ensuring smooth day-to-day plant functioning. This position requires a hands-on leader who can work closely with shop-floor teams, take ownership of outcomes, and continuously improve productivity and operational efficiency in a wire, steel, or heavy engineering manufacturing environment. The candidate must have prior experience working with an organization having a minimum annual revenue of ₹250+ Cr and a workforce of 400+ employees, with a strong administrative background.
Key Responsibilities-
1. Production and Operations Management The GM – Operations will lead daily production activities to ensure planned output is achieved as per customer and business requirements. He will conduct regular production reviews, track key performance indicators, and take corrective actions wherever required. The role includes improving machine utilization, reducing wastage, and driving overall equipment effectiveness through continuous improvement initiatives.
2. Manpower Management, Team Building and Cost Control The role involves ensuring proper deployment of manpower across shifts and production lines. A strong focus is expected on building capable teams, mentoring supervisors, and creating a disciplined, performance-oriented shop-floor culture.
3. The GM will work closely with HR on manpower planning, attendance, and discipline. He will also be responsible for costing, monitoring consumption of raw materials, consumables, and utilities, and preparing action plans to control costs and improve operational efficiency.
4. MIS, Reporting and Cross-Functional Leadership The position requires submission of daily, weekly, and monthly MIS reports to senior management. The GM will present clear action plans for productivity improvement, risk management, and cost optimization.
5. He will lead coordination across departments such as PPC, Maintenance, Quality, HR, Dispatch, and Stores to ensure smooth factory operations. Prior experience in heavy engineering operations will be an added advantage.
6. Quality Management and Continuous Improvement The GM will be responsible for maintaining high quality standards with a strong focus on zerodefect production. This includes driving root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and continuous quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with Quality and R&D teams.
7. Safety, Compliance and Factory Administration Ensuring a safe working environment and compliance with statutory and safety requirements is a key responsibility. The GM will implement and monitor SOPs, conduct safety reviews, and work closely with HR, Security, and Administration to maintain discipline and smooth factory operations.
Candidate Profile-
1. The ideal candidate should be an engineer (BE / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy, or Electrical) with at least 12 years of experience in manufacturing operations. Experience in wire manufacturing, steel, or heavy engineering industries is essential.
2. He should have strong exposure to factory operations, manpower management, cost control, and quality systems, along with proven leadership and decision-making abilities. Willingness to relocate to Sarigam is mandatory.
