Job Description:
An AOD (Aerial Observation/Delivery or just an Overhead) Crane Operator's job involves safely operating cranes to lift, move, and position heavy materials in industrial settings, requiring daily inspections, adherence to strict safety protocols (like using signals with spotters), performing routine maintenance, and accurately logging movements to ensure smooth, productive, and safe site operations, often coordinating with teams and adhering to operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Crane Operation: Manipulate crane controls (levers, pedals, buttons) to move loads with precision, following verbal, written, or signal instructions.
- Safety & Compliance: Conduct daily pre-shift inspections (cables, brakes, hydraulics), ensure safe load rigging, monitor crane stability, and follow all health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Material Handling: Lift, move, and position heavy materials like machinery, equipment, and bulk goods using hooks, slings, or electromagnets.
- Team Coordination: Work closely with spotters, flaggers, riggers, and supervisors, using hand signals and voice to direct movements.
- Maintenance & Reporting: Perform operator-level maintenance (cleaning, checking fluids) and keep detailed daily logs of material movements and equipment status, reporting issues to supervisors.
- Site Management: Keep the work area clean, select waste for removal (in waste facilities), and ensure clear travel routes.
Essential Skills & Duties
- Ability to interpret load charts and understand equipment specifications.
- Strong focus on precision and accuracy.
- Capability to work at heights and climb equipment.
- Effective communication skills.
- Experience with specific crane types (overhead, telescoping, lattice booms).
