Job Description:
A Mechanical Foreman in a steel manufacturing company oversees the maintenance, repair, and installation of heavy industrial machinery (such as blast furnaces, rolling mills, conveyors, and crushers). This role ensures that production equipment operates reliably, with a high emphasis on minimizing downtime and adhering to strict safety protocols.
Job Responsibilities:
- Maintenance & Repair: Execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance on mechanical equipment.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and guide mechanical staff (fitters, welders, technicians), distribute manpower, and manage shift activities.
- Operational Efficiency: Monitor equipment performance, troubleshoot, and implement improvements to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Shutdown Planning: Participate in or lead maintenance shutdowns to restore plant integrity.
- Spare Parts Management: Plan for and manage spare parts inventory, procurement, and new spare part development.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce strict safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, and conduct toolbox talks.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and equipment performance.
Key Requirements:
- Education: Diploma or ITI in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: 4 to 15 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, specifically in steel plants, SMS (Steel Melting Shop), rolling mills, or ferro-alloy units.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of heavy hydraulic systems, gearboxes, refractory lining, and conveyors.
- Technical Drawing: Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
- Tools: Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and MS Office.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
Typical Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, climb, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working around heavy, hot industrial machinery.
