Job Description:
An RMP (Raw Material Processing/Preparation) Operator in a steel manufacturing company operates machinery like crushers, conveyors, and rotary kilns to prepare raw materials (iron ore, coal, lime) for steel production. Key duties include monitoring equipment parameters (temperature, pressure), performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and ensuring safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Operation: Controlling machinery such as rotary kilns, conveyors, crushers, and screens to process raw materials, often via PLC/DCS systems.
- Process Monitoring: Monitoring gauges and screens to maintain optimal operational parameters (flow rates, temperature, pressure) for quality production.
- Maintenance: Performing routine cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs on equipment to minimize downtime.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhering strictly to safety protocols, handling hazardous materials, and maintaining environmental standards (EHS).
- Documentation: Maintaining detailed logs of operational data, material usage, and maintenance activities.
- Coordination: Collaborating with other departments to ensure timely raw material supply to the kiln or steel melting shop.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Typically ITI, Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or relevant technical certification.
- Experience: Previous experience as an operator in a steel plant (DRI/Sponge Iron) or similar manufacturing setup.
- Skills: Strong troubleshooting abilities, attention to detail, physical stamina for industrial environments, and ability to interpret technical drawings.
Job Context
This role is crucial in the initial, material preparation stages of steelmaking, often located in the Raw Material Handling Plant (RMHP) or Raw Material Preparation Plant (RMPP). It may require shift work (including nights) to maintain 24/7 operations
