VTL Operator / Supervisor
Job Description:
A Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) Setter and Operator is responsible for configuring, operating, and maintaining specialized vertical lathes to machine large, heavy, or complex parts. This role involves setting up tools, editing programs, and ensuring parts meet precise specifications for industries like automotive, aerospace, and heavy engineering.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Machine Setup: Select, align, and secure holding fixtures (jaws, chucks) and cutting tools on the vertical table.
- Operation: Operate CNC or conventional VTL machines to perform turning, facing, boring, and grooving operations.
- Programming & Offsets: Load programs, set tool offsets, and edit code (specifically Fanuc, Siemens, or similar systems) to maintain quality.
- Inspection & Quality: Use precision measuring instruments (Micrometers, calipers, pie tapes) to inspect parts for tolerance compliance.
- Material Handling: Utilize overhead cranes to load/unload heavy workpieces safely.
- Maintenance: Perform daily preventative maintenance, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: 2–5+ years of experience in VTL operation (CNC or Conventional).
- Education: ITI or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/Machinist/Fitter.
