SCM - Manager / Dy. Manager
Job Description:
A Supply Chain Management (SCM) Manager in this sector oversees the end-to-end flow of specialized technical materials—from raw electrical steel to precision-machined motor components. The role balances technical procurement with lean production planning to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing of high-efficiency motor and transformer products.
Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Sourcing & Procurement: Lead the procurement of critical raw materials, including CRGO/CRNGO electrical steel sheets, aluminium ingots, and specialized coatings. Manage the full RFQ process for complex tools, such as high-precision stamping dies, punches, and machining fixtures.
- Inventory & Demand Planning: Develop production schedules by forecasting demand for motor cores and laminated assemblies. Maintain optimum stock levels of both raw materials and finished machined components to minimize "iron loss" in inventory value while preventing line stoppages.
- Vendor Management: Identify and onboard specialized vendors for foundry services and precision machining. Conduct regular performance audits focusing on quality, technical capability for complex electrical items, and lead-time reliability.
- Technical Coordination: Collaborate with Engineering and R&D to validate technical specifications for laminations (typically 0.25mm to 0.5mm thickness) and machined parts. Manage Engineering Change Notices (ECN) and resolve technical discrepancies in component development.
- Logistics & Compliance: Oversee inbound logistics for heavy steel coils and outbound distribution of finished motor cores. Ensure all procurement practices adhere to ISO standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements like GST and invoicing compliance.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is highly preferred due to the technical nature of the products. Advanced certifications like CSCP, CPIM, or an MBA in SCM provide a significant advantage.
- Experience: Typically requires 10–15 years of experience in a manufacturing plant environment, specifically within stamping, die-casting, or precision component manufacturing.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or MS Dynamics) for material requirement planning (MRP) and inventory tracking.
- Soft Skills: Strong negotiation skills for high-value metal contracts and the ability to lead cross-functional teams across production, quality, and maintenance departments
