Job Description:
A Traffic Supervisor manages the safe, efficient flow of vehicles and pedestrians, overseeing staff, traffic control devices (signs, signals, markings), and implementing traffic plans. Key duties include monitoring traffic patterns, responding to incidents, ensuring compliance with regulations, and coordinating with law enforcement.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Oversight: Supervises the installation and maintenance of traffic signs, markings, and signals.
- Traffic Management: Analyzes traffic data to minimize congestion and ensures compliance with safety regulations and laws.
- Personnel Management: Hires, trains, schedules, and disciplines traffic personnel.
- Incident Response: Manages traffic during emergencies, incidents, or construction projects.
- Administration: Prepares reports, manages budgets, and resolves complaints regarding parking or traffic violations.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent is typically required; a Bachelor's degree in transportation management or related field is often preferred. Experience in traffic management, logistics, or a supervisory role is essential.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of traffic laws, safety standards, and traffic management software.
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Certifications: Often requires certifications in traffic control (e.g., ATSSA) and a valid driver's license.
Working Conditions
- The role often requires working in both office environments and outdoors in construction or operational areas.
