Job Description:
A WHRB (Waste Heat Recovery Boiler) DCS Operator in a steel manufacturing company manages the DCS interface to control, monitor, and optimize boiler operations, ensuring safe steam generation from flue gas. They handle startups, shutdowns, and troubleshoot malfunctions in real-time, working closely with field operators to ensure safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- DCS Operation: Monitor and control boiler parameters (steam pressure, temperature, drum levels) using the Distributed Control System (DCS).
- WHRB Performance: Ensure optimal operation of the WHRB system by managing exhaust gas flow, feedwater pumps, and combustion.
- Start-up/Shutdown: Execute safe and standard start-up and shutdown procedures.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve operational malfunctions, responding to alarms immediately.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to IBR regulations, safety protocols, and environmental standards to ensure compliance.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate daily logs, trends, and shift reports regarding boiler performance.
- Interlock Management: Ensure all boiler and turbine safety interlocks are functioning properly.
Job Requirements:
- Education: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical or Electrical engineering.
- Experience: 3–5+ years of hands-on experience as a DCS operator in a power plant or steel plant, specifically with WHRB or AFBC boilers.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in DCS/PLC/SCADA systems, troubleshooting, and understanding of boiler interlocks.
- Certification: 1st Class Boiler Operator certificate is highly preferred.

- Strong analytical and decision-making skills in high-pressure environments.
- Ability to manage emergency situations and alarms.
- Effective teamwork with field personnel.
