Job Description:
  • Procedure Development & Approval: Develop, qualify, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) as per ASME Sec IX, AWS D1.1, or API standards.
  • Quality Assurance & Inspection: Lead welding inspection activities, including visual inspection (VT) and interpreting NDT results (RT, UT, MT, PT) to ensure compliance.
  • Process Improvement: Troubleshoot welding defects (cracks, porosity, lack of fusion) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to improve productivity and quality.
  • Technical Compliance: Review fabrication drawings and technical documents for welding requirements and maintain welder continuity records.
  • Supervision & Training: Supervise welding operations on the shop floor, train welders on best practices, and verify equipment calibration.
  • Vendor/Client Coordination: Liaise with Third-Party Inspectors (TPI) and client representatives for witnessing tests and approving procedures.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience: 5 to 13 years of experience in welding engineering, quality assurance, or inspection in fabrication, pressure vessels, pipelines, or heavy structural industries.
  • Certification (Mandatory/Preferred):
    • AWS: Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI).
    • CSWIP: CSWIP 3.1 or 3.2 Welding Inspector/Senior Inspector.
    • NDT: ASNT Level II in RTFI, UT, MT, PT.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Production Engineering (Diploma in Mechanical with extensive experience may be accepted).
  • Code Knowledge: Expert-level knowledge of ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, API 650/620/1104, and ISO 3834. 
Skills and Competencies
  • Welding Processes: Proficient in SMAW, GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG/MAG), SAW, and FCAW.
  • Metallurgy: Deep understanding of welding metallurgy for carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy materials.
  • Leadership: Strong supervisory skills for leading teams of welders, inspectors, and junior engineers.
