Job Description:
A Boiler DCS Engineer in a steel company operates, monitors, and optimizes boiler systems (such as AFBC or WHRB) using a Distributed Control System (DCS) to ensure safe and efficient steam generation. Key duties include starting/shutting down boilers, managing critical parameters (pressure, temperature, fuel-to-air ratios), troubleshooting alarms, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- DCS Operation & Control: Continuously monitor and control boiler processes, including fuel feeding, water levels, and combustion efficiency through the DCS interface.
- Startup/Shutdown Procedures: Safely execute boiler startup and shutdown operations in alignment with standard operating procedures.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Identify and resolve abnormal operating conditions, system trips, and field instrument issues.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure the boiler and turbine operations adhere to safety standards, environmental regulations, and optimize performance parameters.
- Coordination: Coordinate with field operators and utility teams to manage steam distribution.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering.
- Experience: Usually 3-8+ years of experience in thermal power plants within steel or captive power industries.
- Certifications: Often requires a Boiler Operation Engineer (BOE) certificate.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in DCS systems (like Siemens, ABB, Yokogawa), PLC systems, and familiarity with AFBC or WHRB boiler technology.
Key Competencies
- Strong understanding of thermal power plant thermodynamics.
- High-pressure boiler operation expertise.
- Ability to work under pressure during emergency shutdowns
