Job Description:
A Senior Operator/Operator for Coal Handling Plant (CHP) and Ash Handling Plant (AHP) in a steel company is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of fuel handling, storage, and waste management systems for the plant's captive power plant or furnaces. This role ensures a steady supply of coal, proper handling of ash, and maintenance of equipment.
Key Job Responsibilities
- CHP Operations: Operate conveyors, crushers, stackers, reclaimers, and feeders to handle coal from unloading to bunkering.
- AHP Operations: Operate ash handling systems (pneumatic/hydraulic), including bottom ash and fly ash handling from boilers to ash siloes or disposal areas.
- Monitoring & Control: Monitor plant operations using control panels/DCS to manage system parameters, fuel flow, and identify anomalies.
- Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance, equipment checks, belt alignment, and troubleshooting on conveyors, pumps, and crushers to minimize downtime.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure 100% PPE, LOTO (Lockout-Tagout), and PTW (Permit to Work) compliance to ensure a safe working environment.
- Record Keeping: Maintain daily shift logs, production reports, and maintenance records.
- Coordination: Coordinate with boiler, turbine, and maintenance departments for smooth operation.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: ITI (Fitter/Electrician/Mechanic), Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or relevant technical qualification.
- Experience:
- Operator: 2–5 years of experience in CHP/AHP operations in a thermal power plant or steel plant.
- Sr. Operator: 5+ years of experience with troubleshooting skills.
- Skills: Knowledge of conveyor systems, crushers, hydraulic couplings, and PLC/DCS operations.
Job Context
- Location: Often situated in industrial areas (e.g., Raipur, Raigarh, Bhilai, Korba).
- Work Environment: Shift work, including night shifts.
- Key Equipment: Conveyors, Wagon Tipplers, Crushers, Stackers/Reclaimers, Ash Water Pumps, Vacuum Pumps.
