Job Description:
A Computer Operator in a Coal Handling Plant (CHP) or Ash Handling Plant (AHP) within a steel company is responsible for monitoring, controlling, and recording the operational data of fuel handling and ash disposal systems using specialized computerized systems (often DCS or SCADA). This role bridges technical plant operations with data management, ensuring that coal reaches the boilers efficiently and ash is removed without interrupting production.
Key Responsibilities
- System Monitoring & Control: Operate and monitor CHP/AHP machinery (conveyors, crushers, screens, feeders, ash pumps) via a Control Desk or Human Machine Interface (HMI) to ensure continuous, safe operation.
- Data Entry & Reporting: Enter daily production data, stock levels, coal receipt figures, and ash generation rates into the company system (Excel/ERP).
- Production Log Management: Maintain accurate logs of operational activities, including start/stop times of equipment, breakdown times, and maintenance activities.
- Troubleshooting: Identify operational abnormalities (e.g., conveyor jams, bunker emptiness, ash pump failure) through monitoring tools and coordinate with field technicians to fix issues.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety standards and Environmental Protection requirements within the plant, including monitoring for fire hazards in coal handling and proper ash disposal.
- Stock Management: Track coal inventory and update records to prevent shortages.
- Communication: Coordinate with Shift Incharges, Power Plant operators, and maintenance teams for smooth operation and planned maintenance shutdowns.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: ITI in COPA (Computer Operator and Programming Assistant), Diploma in Computer Applications (DCA), or a relevant technical degree/diploma.
- Experience: 2-5 years of experience in a similar role within a steel, power, or thermal plant environment is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in MS Office (Excel/Word) and familiarity with PLC/SCADA or Industrial Control Systems.
- Typing Skills: Ability to type efficiently (both English and local language often required).
- Troubleshooting: Basic understanding of hardware, networking, and software to troubleshoot peripheral equipment.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work in a demanding industrial environment, including potential shift work (night shifts).
Key Working Conditions
- This role usually involves working on a rotating shift basis (e.g., A, B, C shifts).
- The work environment is typical of heavy industries, requiring adherence to strict safety rules (PPE, Helmet, Safety Shoes).
- Candidates may be required to work under pressure to maintain 24/7 plant continuitY.
