Job Description:
A Steel Company Supervisor manages day-to-day operations, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and safety regulations (HSE) are met. They lead teams, schedule shifts, maintain equipment efficiency, and resolve shop-floor issues. Key roles include monitoring steel production or fabrication, mentoring staff, and implementing project procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Production & Operations: Supervise daily operations, including melting, fabrication, piping, and structural erection, ensuring projects meet deadlines and specifications.
- Safety & Compliance: Act as a shift safety leader, enforcing OSHA, ASME, or AWS guidelines, conducting toolbox talks, and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Team Leadership: Train, mentor, and evaluate production staff, resolve workplace conflicts, and assign tasks to maintain high productivity.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished work (e.g., fit-up, welding) to ensure compliance with standards and customer requirements.
- Logistics & Maintenance: Manage inventory, coordinate material handling, and ensure preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on production progress, manpower, and safety incidents.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, an Associate's degree in a technical field, or extensive equivalent industry experience.
- Experience: Usually requires 5–10+ years in steel manufacturing, fabrication, or construction, with previous supervisory experience.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of steel fabrication techniques, welding procedures, and interpreting blueprints.
- Leadership/Skills: Strong leadership, communication, troubleshooting, and MS Office/project software skills.
