Job Description:
An IT Technician for a steel company provides on-site technical support, manages industrial network infrastructure (LAN/WAN), installs hardware/software, and maintains inventory. They ensure high system uptime by troubleshooting computers, printers, and specialized production machinery, often requiring 2+ years of experience in network maintenance and strong troubleshooting skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Installing, configuring, and maintaining servers, workstations, and network cabling.
- Technical Support: Acting as the primary point of contact for employees, troubleshooting software, hardware, and peripheral issues.
- Industrial Connectivity: Managing and troubleshooting LAN, WAN, and internet connectivity, including connecting industrial equipment to the company network.
- System Security & Backups: Running regular data backups and implementing security measures (antivirus, firewalls) to protect company data.
- Inventory Management: Maintaining accurate records of hardware and software assets.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: A degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, according to Betterteam.
- Experience: Proven experience (2+ years) in computer network maintenance and system support.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with operating systems, software installation, and database programming.
- Problem-Solving: Strong diagnostic skills for both hardware and software, as detailed in Boise State University's job standard.
- Communication: Ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical staff and work well within a team.
