Job Description:
Hospital housekeeping staff (often Environmental Services or EVS technicians) maintain a sterile, clean, and safe environment, which is vital for infection control. Key duties include disinfecting patient rooms, common areas, and high-touch surfaces; managing biohazard waste; handling linens; and replenishing supplies.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Infection Control: Adhere to strict sanitation protocols to prevent cross-contamination, including hand hygiene and handling contaminated materials.
- Cleaning & Sanitizing: Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize patient rooms, bathrooms, waiting areas, and offices.
- High-Touch Surface Disinfection: Thoroughly clean high-touch areas like bed rails, call buttons, doorknobs, and light switches.
- Waste Disposal: Dispose of trash, biohazard waste, and infectious materials according to hospital regulations and safety standards.
- Linen Management: Collect, wash, and distribute linens, ensuring clean, fresh linens are available for patients.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain, clean, and sanitize cleaning equipment, such as vacuums and buffing machines.
- Restocking: Replenish necessary supplies in restrooms, patient rooms, and janitorial closets.
- Safety and Reporting: Follow safety protocols, use "wet floor" signs, and report needed repairs or maintenance hazards to supervisors.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, lift, and push cleaning equipment for extended periods.
- Attention to Detail: Ensuring that every corner of the facility is properly cleaned to meet health standards.
- Knowledge of Infection Control: Understanding of sanitation practices and proper chemical usage.
- Communication Skills: Ability to work well with hospital staff and follow safety guidelines.
- Reliability: The ability to work on a team and adapt to changing needs or emergencies.
Working Conditions:
