Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
- Installation: Installing wiring, conduits, lighting fixtures, circuit breakers, and electrical panels.
- Maintenance & Repair:
Troubleshooting electrical malfunctions, inspecting systems, and replacing faulty components like motors and switches.
- Blueprint Analysis: Reading and interpreting electrical diagrams, blueprints, and technical drawings to plan work.
- Safety Compliance: Following National Electrical Codes (NEC) and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA) to prevent hazards.
- Testing: Using testing devices (e.g., ohmmeters, voltmeters) to ensure system compatibility and safety.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an electrician apprenticeship program or technical school.
- Licensing: Valid electrician license (Journeyman or Master).
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of electrical systems, materials, and safety protocols.
- Physical Ability: Physical stamina to work long hours, lift heavy equipment (up to 50+ lbs), and work in confined spaces or at heights.
- Color Vision: Excellent color vision to identify color-coded wiring.
Work Environment
Electricians often work full-time, with possibilities for overtime, evenings, and weekends to handle repairs. The work is hands-on, often involving travel to various sites. -
