Job Description:
A Workshop Manager for a coal washery is responsible for ensuring the maximum availability, reliability, and efficiency of all plant machinery and equipment, including coal handling systems, crushers, screens, conveyors, and wash boxes. This role involves managing the day-to-day operations of the workshop, implementing preventive maintenance programs, managing maintenance teams, and ensuring strict adherence to safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Maintenance & Reliability: Develop and implement preventive/predictive maintenance schedules for all washery equipment to minimize breakdowns and maximize production.
- Operations Management: Oversee the workshop's daily operations, including repair of mining and washing machinery (e.g., pumps, screens, conveyors).
- Team Leadership: Supervise and guide technicians, mechanics, and electricians, ensuring high-quality workmanship and safe practices.
- Inventory Control: Manage inventory of spare parts and consumables, ordering necessary items while minimizing cost without compromising quality.
- Safety & Environment: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols (EHS) and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement of washery maintenance processes and reliability initiatives.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on maintenance performance, downtime analysis, and cost optimization to management.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: Generally 5–15 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of mining, washing, or heavy earthmoving equipment.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of heavy machinery, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems in a processing plant environment.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, manage, and motivate a team of technicians.
- Software Proficiency: Proficiency in computer applications like MS Office and SAP-ERP for inventory management.
