Job Description:
A Coal Washery Chemist ensures coal quality by analyzing raw and washed samples (moisture, ash, volatility, calorific value) using proximate and ultimate analysis. Key roles include sampling, laboratory testing, operating equipment (muffle furnaces), and optimizing washing efficiency. Common requirements include a B.Sc. or diploma in Chemistry/Mining, relevant industry experience, and knowledge of ISO/ASTM standards.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Sample Management: Collecting and preparing coal samples from raw feeds, washed products, and rejects.
- Quality Analysis: Conducting proximal/ultimate analysis to determine moisture, ash content, volatile matter, fixed carbon, sulfur, and Gross Calorific Value (GCV).
- Lab Equipment Operation: Using muffle furnaces, bomb calorimeters, balances, and other laboratory equipment.
- Quality Management System (QMS): Maintaining lab QC standards (ISO/IEC 17025), documenting findings, and reporting results, as detailed in the Coal Testing Jobs listing.
- Operational Optimization: Analyzing data to help optimize washing efficiency and monitor impurity removal.
- Safety Compliance: Adhering to laboratory and site HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) protocols.
Qualifications
- Education: B.Sc. in Chemistry, Diploma in Mining, Coal Technology, or Chemical Engineering.
- Experience: 2–8 years of relevant work experience in coal testing laboratories.
- Skills: Proficiency in analytical chemistry, data interpretation, and Microsoft Office/LIMS software.
