Key Responsibilities
- Supervision & Operations: Supervise and manage the receipt, storage, and dispatch of steel billets in the yard or warehouse.
- Loading/Unloading: Coordinate the safe and timely loading of billets onto trucks or railway rakes, and unloading from production lines.
- Stacking & Inventory Control: Ensure proper identification, stacking, and segregation of billets based on grades, sizes, and heat numbers to prevent mix-ups.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate inventory records,, update stock registers (physical or ERP/SAP), and generate reports on material movement.
- Quality Checking: Inspect billets for surface defects, dimensional issues, and correct labeling before dispatch, reporting discrepancies to the quality department.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols (5S methodology) within the yard, including crane safety and proper handling procedures.
- Team Leadership: Train, guide, and supervise yard workers and crane operators to optimize efficiency.
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience: Generally 2–6 years of experience in billet yard management, logistics, or warehouse operations within a steel manufacturing unit.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with TMT bar/billet types, grades, and heat numbers.
- Systems Knowledge: Proficiency in SAP MM or similar ERP systems for inventory control.
- Physical Handling: Experience with material handling equipment, including overhead cranes, forklifts, or heavy lifting tools.
- Skills: Strong communication skills to coordinate with truck drivers and production teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- ITI / Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical/Production) or relevant experience in a reputed steel plant.
