Job Description:
A Steel Manufacturing Supervisor (Production or Quality) manages daily shop floor operations to ensure safe, efficient production, leading crews to meet targets while adhering to quality standards (ISO/AWS) and safety regulations (HSE/OSHA). Key responsibilities include production planning, machine monitoring, and team leadership to optimize output and minimize waste. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Core Responsibilities
- Production Oversight: Manage daily production schedules, assign tasks to workers, and oversee machinery operation to meet targets.
- Quality Control (QC): Ensure compliance with engineering drawings, technical specifications, and standards (e.g., ISO) through inspection and testing.
- Safety Leadership: Enforce safety regulations (HSE), conduct safety briefings, and ensure a secure work environment, serving as the shift safety leader.
- Team Leadership: Supervise crew, provide technical guidance, train new employees, and manage performance.
- Process & Troubleshooting: Monitor key parameters (temperature, speed) and resolve technical or operational issues on the shop floor.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain production logs, material test reports, and quality documentation.
Typical Requirements
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field.
- Experience: 5–10 years in structural steel fabrication, rolling mills, or specialized steel processing.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in reading engineering drawings, understanding metallurgy, and knowledge of NDT methods.
- Certifications: Often requires welding inspection certifications such as AWS CWI or CSWIP.
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
