Job Summary

The Shift Incharge Operations is responsible for supervising and controlling all operational activities of a coal washery during an assigned shift. The role ensures safe, efficient, and continuous plant operation to achieve production, quality, recovery, and dispatch targets while complying with safety and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

Plant Operations

• Monitor and control complete coal washery operations during the shift.
• Ensure smooth running of:
  • Crushing and screening systems
  • Heavy media circuits
  • Jig / flotation systems
  • Dewatering systems
  • Conveyors and stacking systems
• Maintain desired ash percentage, yield, and product quality.
• Coordinate start-up and shutdown activities of the plant.

Production Management

• Achieve daily and shift-wise production targets.
• Optimize throughput and recovery of clean coal.
• Monitor feed quality and adjust operational parameters accordingly.
• Reduce process losses and downtime.

Manpower Supervision

• Supervise operators, field staff, and contract workers.
• Allocate duties and ensure discipline during shifts.
• Conduct shift handover and briefing sessions.
• Train junior operators on operational and safety procedures.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure strict compliance with:
  • Safety procedures
  • PPE usage
  • Permit-to-work systems
  • Environmental norms
• Report unsafe conditions and incidents immediately.
• Conduct safety inspections during shifts.

Maintenance Coordination

• Coordinate with maintenance teams for breakdown handling.
• Report equipment abnormalities and operational issues.
• Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed with minimal operational impact.

Monitoring & Reporting

• Maintain shift logbooks and operational reports.
• Record:
  • Production data
  • Downtime
  • Equipment status
  • Coal quality parameters
• Prepare MIS and shift performance reports.

Quality Control

• Coordinate with laboratory and quality teams.
• Ensure washed coal quality meets customer specifications.
• Monitor ash, moisture, and size distribution.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of coal washery processes and equipment.
• Understanding of CHP (Coal Handling Plant) operations.
• Process troubleshooting capability.
• Leadership and team handling skills.
• Good communication and reporting skills.
• Basic computer knowledge (Excel, SAP, SCADA/DCS preferred).

Educational Qualification

• Diploma / B.Tech in:
  • Mining Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mineral Processing
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering

Experience

• Typically 5–10 years experience in coal washery / mineral processing operations.
• Experience in shift handling and plant supervision preferred.
