Job Description:

Role Summary

The Safety Officer will build and run the EHS management system for the new Ecofy facility from the ground up. The role covers occupational safety, fire safety, contractor safety, environmental compliance, and statutory liaison. This is a hands-on, shop-floor role with full ownership of the plant's safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the plant's EHS policy, manuals, SOPs, and emergency response plans.
  • Conduct regular safety walk-downs, HIRA (Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment), and JSA (Job Safety Analysis) across all areas.
  • Manage Permit-to-Work systems for hot work, working at height, confined spaces, and electrical work.
  • Drive incident reporting, investigation, root-cause analysis, and CAPA closure.
  • Maintain compliance with the Factories Act, statutory returns, pollution control board norms, and fire NOC.
  • Plan and conduct mock drills (fire, chemical spill, medical emergency, evacuation) and maintain records.
  • Manage contractor safety — induction, gate pass, PPE, work clearance, and toolbox talks.
  • Oversee firefighting systems, hydrants, sprinklers, extinguishers, smoke detectors, and PPE inventory.
  • Conduct safety training for new joiners, operators, and contractors; maintain training records.
  • Monitor environmental parameters — ETP/STP performance, stack emissions, ambient air quality, and waste disposal.
  • Liaise with the Factory Inspector, Pollution Control Board, Fire Department, and DISH.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • E./B.Tech or B.Sc. with an Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety (ADIS) recognised by the State Technical Education Board. Mandatory for Factories Act compliance.
  • 3–6 years of experience as a Safety Officer in a manufacturing plant; pulp/paper, packaging, or chemical industry preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the Factories Act 1948, Indian Boiler Regulations, OSHA, NFPA, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001.
  • Hands-on experience with HIRA, JSA, HAZOP, Permit-to-Work, and incident investigation.
  • Strong communication and training delivery skills — must be comfortable addressing shop-floor teams and senior management.
  • First-aid and firefighting certification is a strong plus.
