Job Description:
A Logistics Manager for a power plant directs the end-to-end supply chain of critical commodities. They oversee bulk raw material procurement (e.g., coal, gas), inventory tracking, and warehouse distribution. Their primary goal is to ensure uninterrupted plant operations while optimizing transportation costs and regulatory compliance. [1, 2, 3]
Core Responsibilities
  • Fuel Sourcing & Logistics: Coordinate the procurement and bulk transport of raw materials (coal, oil, or biomass). [1, 2]
  • Transportation Management: Manage rake scheduling (rail), truck fleets, and barge deliveries. Liaise with railway authorities and mining subsidiaries to prevent supply disruptions. [1]
  • Inventory Control: Track and manage stock levels for critical spares, heavy machinery, and consumables to prevent plant downtime. [1, 2, 3]
  • Vendor & Contract Management: Negotiate rates with carriers, freight forwarders, and equipment suppliers to minimize supply chain expenditures. [1, 2]
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all handling, storage, and transport of materials adhere to local, state, and environmental safety regulations. [1]
  • Dispute Resolution: Handle grade/quality reconciliations, transit loss disputes, and overloading penalties. [1]
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Plant Availability: Zero production halts caused by fuel or spare parts shortages.
  • Logistics Costs: Year-over-year freight and transportation cost savings.
  • Inventory Turnover Rate: Efficiency in maintaining optimal stock without over-capitalization.
  • Transit Loss & Quality: Minimizing material loss and degradation during transit (e.g., GCV loss in coal). [1, 2, 3, 4]
Qualifications & Skills
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or Engineering.
  • Experience: 10+ years in industrial supply chain, specifically within heavy manufacturing, mining, or power generation.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle) and advanced inventory management software.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional stakeholder management, crisis troubleshooting, contract negotiation, and analytical capacity. [1, 2, 3, 4]
